I have been a resident of Portlethen since the last millennium – moving here just before graduating from the University of Aberdeen with a degree in Economic Science. My husband is a Scout leader here and our four children attend local schools.
I believe we all share responsibility for making our communities the best place they can be. In my years in North Kincardine, I’ve contributed my time and energy whenever I’ve been able. Before becoming a parent and getting involved in local organisations, my ‘volunteering time’ was devoted to archery as coach, event organiser, area secretary and Scottish Archery Association treasurer. Since then, I have spent time
-at Portlethen Primary in the Parent Staff Association, Parent Council, and as a volunteer. Whilst on the Parent Council I was part of a group campaigning for Hillside School to be built.
-at Jubilee Hall as part of the management committee
-as secretary for Portlethen Gala for three years
Currently, I’m a parent helper at Portlethen Primary (when Covid allows), I was part of the team running the Fine Piece Café in Jubilee Hall until my election – I still volunteer on the few Wednesday mornings I have free. My husband and I have set up a free boardgames club – Tabletop Portlethen – with the support of the local minister, Rodolphe Kowal. I am also a volunteer with Home-Start Aberdeen – supporting families with young children.
As for ‘ancient history’, I’m originally from Lancashire. My mum was a nurse, a farmer’s daughter, who died of cancer when I was a teen. My dad was a Scouser, a disabled rights activist and the person who, for me, normalised joining every committee going!
Well done
Now it’s time the roads and pavement conditions in and around the PDCC are sorted out ASAP.
That’s why you got my vote.
Some of the holes in the roads around Portlethen, that were supposedly fixed, are becoming holes again. Do the job once, do it properly with proper material, and use qualified people to do it.
